Obituary of Jill LaVerne McGlone

Please share a memory of Jill to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jill LaVerne McGlone was born on November 26, 1945, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to the late Rayfield McKinley Hancock and Hazel Estelle Hancock. Jill was one of three children from this union, with two older sisters, Joan Marie Hancock and Jean Elizabeth Hancock. Unfortunately, their father passed away in 1946 when Jill was only eight months old, leaving her mother to raise three daughters. In 1950, her mother was united in holy matrimony to William (Tim) Jones, and one daughter (Gail Valene Jones) was born from this union. Jill received her education in the Philadelphia School System, attending Thomas Dunlap Elementary School, William H. Shoemaker Junior High School, and graduating from West Philadelphia High School and the Levitan Business School. Jill enjoyed sports in high school, served as a cheerleader, and was very fond of playing games with her fellow classmates. Jill accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior at an early age, and was baptized at the White Rock Baptist Church in West Philadelphia. She was active in several ministries, including the usher board. She adored her sisters and loved helping to care for her younger sister, Gail, and her nephew Craig McIver after the sudden death of his mother, her oldest sister, Joan, in 1960. In 1966, she was united in holy matrimony to Tyrone Foster at White Rock Baptist Church, and they were blessed with one son, Tyrone Lewis Foster. Jill moved with her husband to the West Oak Lane section of Philadelphia where she became a member of the Second Macedonia Baptist Church and served as president of the children's usher board. Jill provided administrative support at the Breyers Ice Cream Company and subsequently worked in administration with the Philadelphia School District. During her tenure with the School District, she worked at several schools, including the Philadelphia High School for Girls, Leeds Junior High School, Martin Luther King, Jr., High School, and Julia Ward Howe Elementary School. Several years after her first marriage ended, Jill married Bradford McGlone in 1989. Shortly thereafter, Jill and Bradford retired and moved to Palm Coast, Florida, where they opened laundromats and invested in real estate. Recognizing that she was not truly ready to retire, Jill worked at Palm Coast Data as an account executive for a number of years. Jill and Bradford attended the Palm Coast Baptist Church upon moving to Florida, and were instrumental in helping to build the church. They later joined the First Baptist Church of Palm Coast, remaining members there until their deaths. Jill and Bradford loved the Lord, and not only attended church regularly, but also taught Bible study at church and at their home. In addition, Jill was blessed by and became an avid on-line viewer of the worship services at the church of her son's family, The People's Community Baptist Church in Silver Spring, Maryland. Jill loved to travel, cook, and particularly enjoyed crossword and Sudoku puzzles. She was famous for her macaroni and cheese, baked apples, rice pudding, Brunswick stew, and rum balls. She also loved spending time with family, especially her only son, Tyrone; her daughter-in-law, Angela; and her grandsons, Jordan and Joshua – all of whom she adored. They were her pride and joy. Jill was a devoted daughter and caregiver to her mother, Hazel Jones, for whom she cared, in her home in Florida, during her nearly 10-year battle with Alzheimer's disease until her death in 2015. A loving and dutiful wife, Jill also served as Bradford's primary caregiver after he fell ill, and until his death only six months later in 2016. In 2023, Jill was weakened by illness, and her son Tyrone served as her primary caregiver. Her spirit continued to shine through until the moment God called her home early in the morning on January 20, 2025, with her family by her side. Throughout her illness, she remained a beacon of light and a breath of fresh air to the doctors, nurses, technicians, support staff, and other patients. She ministered to them, showing love and making them feel special whether she was checking in for an appointment, receiving treatment, or lying in a hospital bed. She was an angel to them, and they would leave her presence feeling energized and uplifted. Jill was preceded in death by her father, Rayfield Hancock; her stepfather, William (Tim) Jones; two sisters, Joan Marie Hancock McIver, and Gail Valene Jones Mack; her mother, Hazel Estelle Jones; and her husband, Bradford McGlone. She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Tyrone (Ty) Lewis Foster; her daughter-in-law, Angela Cooper Foster; two grandsons, Jordan Alexander Foster and Joshua Lewis Foster; her sister Jean Elizabeth Hancock Walker; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews; and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.
