Melinda Ann Charles Obituary

Mrs. Charles was born April 11, 1958 in Florence, SC. She is the daughter of Roosevelt and Dorothy P. (Coker) Davis.

She was employed by as a(n) Administrator.

In a cozy home in Florence, South Carolina Melinda Ann was born to Roosevelt and Dorothy Davis; April 11, 1958. They selected a name that she truly embodied as it means "beauty and pretty." She was "Linda" as pretty and beauty were woven throughout her life story. The Davis`s moved their family to Phila., PA where Melinda along with her siblings Ronald, LaVance and Dawn were raised.

Melinda graduated from John Bartram High School and Community College of Philadelphia. She held education in high esteem adding many professional certifications to her resume. Melinda was a skilled Administrator in the medical and logistics fields. She enjoyed working as a Medical Records Director at Central Park Lodge, a career at Crozer Chester Medical Center as well as UPS where she retired in 2023 after 28 years of service.

Beauty was seen in Melinda`s passion for physical activity. She was an enthusiastic member of her high school gymnastics team, and this love for staying active continued throughout her life. Melinda found joy in dancing, roller skating, bicycling, spending time at the beach and taking walks—activities that reflected her vibrant spirit and commitment to health and wellness. She was a skilled seamstress, who enjoyed shopping, styling herself and her home, raising pets, and gardening.

It was the town where she was born that she met her husband. The happy couple married in June of 1980 and started their life in Phila Pa. The Charles`s were blessed with 3 children: Robert, Marcilla and Mia. Melinda was an exceptionally devoted mother; her children were her delight. She raised all three with love, patience, discipline, and unwavering dedication. She worked hard to set a strong example, teaching them life skills, balance and guiding them spiritually by instilling strong Christian values. Through her teaching, nurturing, and tireless efforts, she built in her children and grandchildren foundation of faith, loyalty, honesty, and love that will continue as a guide.

Her parents were hard workers, talked about God and resourceful as a team; they wanted the best for their children. Dorothy, an excellent cook and talented seamstress, passed on the joy of generosity, strength and hospitality to Melinda. Roosevelt, by example, developed in her a strong work ethic, tenacity and a love for helping others. Opportunity arose and they moved their young family from South Philadelphia to the new Town Gardens community, (Penrose). Here the family flourished, and nurtured lifelong friendships. An exciting moment occurred in Penrose for nine-year-old Melinda; she reunited with a beloved elementary school teacher, Mrs. Morris. Very soon she was regularly attending meetings at the Woodland Congregation with her bonus family. "Mom Morris" taught her the ABCs as a first grader, and patiently helped nurture her love for Jehovah and his son Jesus Christ.

Melinda loved Jehovah and symbolized her dedication to him when she was baptized as one of Jehovah`s Witnesses on November 3, 1991. Beauty was heard in how she spoke about Jehovah. She later attended the Yeadon Congregation where she served as a Regular Pioneer for many years, her favorite "job" continuing right until the end of her life. While serving Jehovah Melinda enjoyed many spiritual privileges such as parts on assembly programs as well as attending special conventions in South Africa , South America and most recently Philadelphia . She enjoyed a full local ministry but also traveled to isolated parts of the United States to share the Bible`s promise concerning God`s Kingdom in those communities who would otherwise never receive the message.

Always wanting to encourage others –from congregation friends, to the grocery cashier, to the person who sat in the seat next to her at Dunkin, to the nurses and Hospice workers that visited her home, Melinda was skilled sharing a scriptural thought or inviting them to visit JW.ORG. Mostly, she loved to talk about Jehovah in casual conversations with the family and friends she adored. She longed that they would come to love Jehovah too.

Melinda`s adventurous spirit carried her across the globe, from Niagara Falls, to Hawaii, the wonders of the Grand Canyon, the turquoise waters of the Caribbean, Dubai, historic cities of Europe and beyond. Her joy was family vacations and if a beach was involved, all the better! These trips, including a July family respite to Ocean City, MD created memories that all will treasure of good food, fun, games, laughter and smiles. Her smile was an unforgettable one.

Those fortunate enough to spend time with Melinda could always count on eating well and reminiscing about the "good ol` days". She was always up for a game of Spades, watching the Eagles, listening and bopping to classic R&B, and learning the newest dance.

Melinda had things to say and when she said, "let me finish" you knew it was time to just listen. It worked both ways; she was always there to listen, provide guidance, and to lend support. When you needed a friend, a project completed, or a shoulder to cry on, she was by your side; Melinda was there to celebrate any accomplishment, large or small with family and friends.

Remaining thoughtful, over the past several years Melinda managed serious illness and declining health beautifullly; with quiet dignity, never seeking attention and sincerely wishing to spare her loved ones from worry. With prayer and conviction, she maintained unwavering confidence and strong faith in the resurrection knowing her days were short. She died peacefully at her Sharon Hill home on, August 25, 2025, surrounded as always, by her loving family.

Melinda will be deeply missed by one son, Robert Charles (Pamela), two daughters Marcilla Clark (Keith) and Mia Charles; dear grandchildren: Laela, Chase, Robert, and Jordyn; siblings: LaVance Davis Sr., Dawn Coney, and Ronald Davis. Play Mom- Cousin Lillie Bell Morris and sister-friends: Darlene, Niecy, Venita and Lisa. Warmly regarded, and too numerous to mention individually, are nieces & nephews, treasured cousins who she has individual special connections, dear friends, and those Melinda sincerely considered mothers, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.
