Roosevelt Thompson was born on September 16, 1942, in Goldsboro, North Carolina, to the late Jonas and Eleanor Thompson. He was the youngest of eleven children. At the age of seven, Roosevelt relocated with his family to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he was educated in the Philadelphia public school system and attended Emmanuel Institutional Baptist Church.

In 1965, Roosevelt met the love of his life, Lula Griffin Thompson. Their union of 59 years was one rooted in love, commitment, and family. Together, they raised four children.

Roosevelt was a dedicated and hardworking man. Throughout his career, he was employed by Storm Weather Products and Exide Battery, and he concluded his working years at Wonder Bread, where he retired as a Lead Technician. In addition to his professional work, Roosevelt earned certifications in air conditioning and refrigeration. Known as the ultimate handyman, he was the person family and friends relied on whenever something needed fixing—"Call Rosie first."

Affectionately known as "Rosie" by those who loved him, Roosevelt was a quiet and gentle soul. He was independent, knew exactly what he liked, and lived life on his own terms. He was an avid fisherman and woodworker, with a workshop full of every tool imaginable. His craftsmanship spoke for itself through the many items he created, including speaker cases, step stools, and benches.

Roosevelt also enjoyed grilling, fishing,cooking, and listening to music—simple pleasures that brought him joy and peace.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 59 years, Lula Griffin Thompson; his children Jacqueline, (David Sr.), Jeffrey (preceded in death), Phillip ( Josette),Nakiesha (James) his grandchildren David Jr., (Michaela), Jessica, India, Elijah, and Israel; his great-grandchildren David III, Makenna, Callie Ana; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
