Roosevelt Reid Obituary

Roosevelt Reid, was born April 9th, 1946, in Manning South Carolina to Mary Jane Frazier-Williams (Archie) and late father Levi Reid. Roosevelt was a veteran of the Vietnam War and longtime resident of Philadelphia, Pa, passed away on December 22nd, 2025 surrounded by family. He was affectionately called Rose by his family, he attended and graduated from Manning Training School in Manning, SC before enlisting in the U.S. Army. Rose joined the Armed Forces in 1964 as a private, first class for the Army, he was boots on the ground in Vietnam, although he did not share many war stories, he was extremely proud of his service to these United States of America. He completed Active Duty in 1966 as a Staff Sgt E-5. Later, Rose retired from the Army Reserves in 2006 as a Staff Sgt E-6 with a total of 20 years of service.

The U.S. Army recognized Roosevelt for his honorable service with a Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Overseas Service Bar and the National Defense Service Metal. Over the years Roosevelt, kept in touch with many of his fellow soldiers. During his reserve service time Roosevelt worked and retired from the city of Philadelphia (Fleets Management)

After the war, Roosevelt returned home where he met and married the love of his life Rose Anna Smith affectionally known as Rosie on May 25th, 1968. Together, they built a life which included their two sons Roosevelt D. Reid and Roderick P. Reid. As their family continued to grow, Rose and Rosie enjoyed going on family vacation sometimes twice a year or more to Virginia Beach and Massanutten Four Seasons Resort. They truly enjoyed their lives of retirement with family. In his later years, Roosevelt fought against cancer for several years and just as he did during his military service he fought a good fight. He never complained although we know that he was in pain he handled it well.

Roosevelt was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Lee Earnest "Buster aka Bus" Reed (Jose), Ruby Leek and nephew Kevin Reed. He's survived by his beautiful wife of 57 years Rose A. Reid, two sons Roosevelt D. Reid and Roderick P. Reid (Lettecia) also Robin Lundy he referred to daughter-in-law, as well as grandchildren Jha'Nyse, Jazmyn and Joshua Lundy-Reid, extended grandchildren Shaddai Robinson and Nayyir Rodgers. Nephews Theron Reed (Dawn), Pernell Leeks (Antionette), Neice Sharon Williams (Devon), Olivia McMillan and Drake Smith as well as a host of beloved nieces, nephews and family and friends. His family immediately following service will be going to the Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newton, PA and will be having a repass at 1318 E Cliveden St Phila, PA 19119 around 4:30pm
