I had a chance to have a conversation with Michael not long before his passing. He really did make you feel heard. A humble and kind man who loved his family and his smiles brightened the room. You could see the pride in his eyes as he talked about his wife and children. Rest in peace dear cousin.

I am still in complete disbelief. Michael was truly one of a kind—a great person who never missed an opportunity to share a kind word or show his appreciation. He was someone I trusted implicitly, and I know that trust was mutual.
More than anything, I’ll remember how much he loved his family; they were at the center of every conversation we had. While my heart breaks for his loved ones, I find peace knowing that while we have lost a man with a giant heart, heaven has gained one. Keeping the Upshur family in my prayers.

The man, the myth, the legend. Michael & I worked together at OneAmerica for many years. As a collegue, there was no one better - full of knowledge, talent and the ultimate team player. It was a privilege to work with him and to witness him in action. More importantly, Michael became my friend and despite the miles between us, we had many lengthy phone chats to catch up and every call was always full of laughs. I loved Michael as a brother and many, many people felt that same way about him. He was just one of a kind and such a special and larger than life kind of man. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten. My condolences to the entire family.

Michael is my best friend we have been close since I was in 7th grade. He has always been a shoulder, an ear, a dear and loving person. We have so many great memories out eating, his senior prom just conversations. Our friendship means the world to me. We didn't have to talk everyday. But I knew my friend was always just a phone call away. No matter what state either of us was in. You are gonna be greatly missed,always though of and loved. Rest in paradise my friend. I love you always!
