Bill Baggett - Philadelphia Sports Legend

William Timothy Baggett, Sr. was born on August 11 at 6:03 AM to Charles & Quincy Baggett at Philadelphia General Hospital. He transitioned to his heavenly home on April 28, 2026.

Bill loved people, basketball, family and his wife Barbara. Anyone who knew Bill would tell you he loved life, laughed heartily and at times could challenge you to the utmost.

Bill spent most of his childhood in North Philadelphia attending the Philadelphia Public Schools. After Graduation from Gratz High School, he attended New York University. It was in school and on the streets of Philadelphia that he developed his desires and skills for basketball. Bill would later go on to play basketball here in the states as well as in Venezula. His involvement with "Shoot for the Stars", African American Athletes in Action which later become Concern Athletes in Action and his work with Wali Jones & Kenneth Hamilton (QP), demonstrated his dedication and mentoring to inner city youth in Philadelphia and beyond.

Bill enjoyed outings with other sports enthusiast during the warmer weather months outside gatherings with basketball friends gave him joy. "The STill Standing" annual picnic at FDR park was an event he looked forward to, as it brought together many of Philadelphia friends.

Famliy was an intergral part of Bill's life, he regularly spent time enjoying his four children and their famillies. He was particularly proud of his grandsons and the men they are becoming. Bill experienced so much joy with the arrival of his two great granddaughters.

In 1999 he married the love of his life, Barbara, and they would exprience more than 27 years of marriage.

Bill leaves to mourn his wife Barbara, children, William Baggett, Jr., Lanette Baggett-Gittens (Tyrone), Kevin (DeeDee) and Dr. Tamara Goode; grandchildren, Kevin Baggett, Jr. Amber Keeton and Brendon Goode-Kimble.
