The Obituary
John Benjamin Butler, affectionately known to many as "Piggy," was born on December 20, 1951, in Sumpter, South Carolina, to the late Richard Benjamin Butler and the late Sarah Mae (Sinkler) Butler. He peacefully departed this life, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories for his family and friends.
John received his high school diploma from Benjamin Franklin High School and later continued his education in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he pursued studies in the electrical trade. In his early adult years, he worked for the Philadelphia Housing Authority. He later dedicated more than 30 years of faithful service to Michelle's Bakery, where he worked as a truck loader and shipper until his retirement.
During his youth, John proudly sang in the Philadelphia Boys Choir, showcasing his love for music and fellowship. He enjoyed fishing, playing and watching sports, and passionately supporting his favorite Philadelphia teams — the Eagles, Phillies, and Philadelphia 76ers. John was known for his kind heart, easygoing spirit, and the love he shared with those around him.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory his children: sons Morrell Green, Quintin Green (Vivian); and daughters Sonya Outen, Deidra Bennett (Thomas).
He is also survived by his brother, Feldon Butler; and his beloved sister, Minnie McBride (Tyrone). He was preceded in death by his sisters, Delores Threadgill (William) and Gloria Garmon (Barry).
John's legacy continues through his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Kiara, Aaron, Raheem, Shanae, Isaiah (DaVondra), Dionne, Shyra, Mykel, Joshua, Jordan, Mahki, Asah, Mykel, JaKing, Janyah and Brooklyn.
He also leaves behind his loving aunt, Inez Stewart, along with a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever treasure his memory.
The family would like to extend a special acknowledgment to his lifelong friends Jerome Wright, Stanley Benison, William Slayton, Paul Frazier, Anthony Boone, and John Carroll, whose friendship meant so much to him over the years.
John Benjamin Butler will be remembered for his warmth, his strength, his love for family, and the joy he brought to those around him. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will live on forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
