Solomon Darby was born in Augusta, Georgia, on January 9, 1943.

He was the firstborn of ten children born to the late Elmira Gross and Solomon Darby Sr.

Sol, as he was affectionately known by many, attended and graduated from Lucy C. Laney High School in Augusta, Georgia. It was there that he met Sarah, his high school sweetheart. They later married and, during their 64-year union, welcomed two children, Angela and Eric Darby.

Solomon worked as a Correctional Officer for 24 years. After retiring, he became a bus driver at Shriners Hospital, where he worked for 9½ years.

He was loved by both the children and their parents.

As a man of God, Solomon lived a life filled with joy and purpose. He was a devoted husband and best friend to his wife. He enjoyed helping his neighbors and serving his community.

Before his illness, he would cut their grass and shovel their snow. He had a green thumb and loved planting flowers. He was also a devoted jazz enthusiast.

In addition to his parents, Solomon was preceded in death by two brothers.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Sarah Darby; his children, Angela and Eric Darby; and his grandson, Marcel Braxton. He is also survived by his sisters, Eloise Devine (Leonard), Earlene Darby, and Wyzona Darby; and his brothers, Eugene Darby (Valarie), Timothy Darby (Fayetta), Eddie Darby, and Freddie Darby.

He also leaves behind a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will cherish his memory forever.
