Henry Davis Jr. Obituary
Henry Davis, Jr. eldest son of the late Henry Davis, Sr. and Maggie Mae Dyson Davis was born on October 30, 1940, in Sumter S. C. He departed this life early Wednesday morning, November 15, 2023. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Jeremiah Davis, and Leroy Davis.
Henry attended Ebenezer High School in Sumter, S.C. He later moved to Philadelphia in the late 1950s and held quite a few jobs. Two of his major employers were a construction company and Temple University Hospital. He also attended the Auto Mechanics School at Sears where he found he had a special gift for repairing cars. He excelled at this profession so well that we called him "the master mechanic."
Henry accepted Jesus Christ as his savior and was baptized at Morris Chapel Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Joseph Hinton.
Henry was quite a comedian. He had that uncanny ability to make you laugh about anything. There were times his brother, Leroy, would get him involved in teasing anyone for fun. You didn't want to be the one being teased because most of time they didn't know when to stop teasing. They would carry it to the extreme that you might end up crying rather than laughing, especially if the joke was on you. In the end, you realized it was done out of love, for laughter, and having fun because Henry loved being with his family and his friends.
Henry leaves to cherish his irreplaceable memories to a devoted son, Henry Davis, III, (Susan) and loving daughters, Courtney Davis, Andrea Brown, Fonytina, Mellasonda, Bernadette and Franceina Ayers; grandchildren, Nya Davis, Branden Lee, Lorin (Marlayna), Morgan and Mia Butler; four sisters, Earlene Glover, Mary Mack, Emma Artwell (Monte) and Ollie Hall (John); two brothers, Cleveland Davis, and Edward Davis (Peggy); as well as loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends he loved so dearly.
