WILLIE DAVIS WAS BORN OCTOBER 9TH, 1942, IN PHILADELPHIA, PA., TO THE LATE SADIE DAVIS AND JAMES WILSON. HE WAS THE ELDEST OF 7 CHILDREN, 4 BOYS AND 3 GIRLS. 3 SIBLINGS PROCEEDED HIM IN DEATH; VERA, GEORGE AND CHARLENE.
WILLIE WHO WAS AFFECTIONATELY KNOWN AS SUNNIE WAS RAISED IN PHILA., PA. AND WAS EDUCATED IN THE PHILADELPHIA SCHOOL DISTRICT AND GRADUATED FROM BENJAMIN FRANKLIN HIGH SCHOOL. AS A KID HE ATTENDED THE MET CHURCH.
IN 1962, HE MET AND FELL IN LOVE WITH THE LOVE OF HIS LIFE ANNA HOPKINS. THEY WERE MARRIED FOR 60 YEARS. FROM THEIR UNION, THEY HAD THEY'RE FIRST CHILD TOGETHER, MARK DAVIS, BORN JANUARY 3RD, 1970.
SUNNIE HAD MANY JOBS INCLUDING NORTHWOOD RUBBER COMPANY AND LATER WENT TO PHILADELPHIA GAS COMPANY, WHERE HE WORKED FOR OVER 25 YEARS THEN RETIRED MARCH 1ST, 1995.
SUNNIE WAS ALWAYS THE LIFE OF THE PARTY. WHEN YOU SEE HIM AND HIS COUSIN KEMP (WHO PROCEEDED HIM IN DEATH), YOU KNEW YOU WAS GONNA HAVE A GOOD TIME. SUNNIE LIKED TO DANCE, DRESS, PLAY CARDS, BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY HE LOVED A GOOD MEAL. SUNNIE WAS A KIND, LOVING AND GIVING PERSON.
AS A YOUNG ADULT HE JOINED THE PRINCE HALL GRAND LODGE, THE MT. OLIVE CHAPTER 27 BRANCH.
SUNNIE GAVE HIS LIFE BACK TO GOD AND JOINED CHRIST TEMPLE INTER-DENOMINATIONAL CHURCH, WHERE HE WAS A MEMBER FOR THE LAST 28 YEARS. HE WAS BAPTIZED JULY 10TH, 1997. HE LATER BECAME A DEACON AND WAS HEAD DEACON UNTIL HE STEPPED DOWN LAST YEAR WHEN HIS HEALTH STARTED TO DECLINE.
DEACON WILLIE "SUNNIE" DAVIS, LIVED AND LOVED FOR 81 YEARS, UNTIL HE WAS CALLED HOME ON DECEMBER 8TH, 2023, SURROUNDED BY FAMILY. HE LEAVES TO CHERISH IN HIS MEMORIES HIS WIFE; ANNA, HIS SON; MARK, HIS (2) STEP-CHILDREN; GERALD (CAROL) AND RHONDA, (3) SIBLINGS; MINNIE, LEONARD (BARBARA), AND JAMES, AND A HOST OF GRANDS, GREAT-GRANDS, NIECES, NEPHEWS, COUSINS, FRIENDS AND CHURCH FAMILY.
