Obituary of Lillian Ester Glover

Lillian Ester, given name, Leahn Ester Elam – known as Queen Ester (Queenie), Lilly from Philly, was born on March 26, 1935 in Chester Pennsylvania to C.J. Elam and Mary Magdalene (Maggie) Elam. She was baptized in the Delaware River and had guardian angels throughout her life.
She started her education in Chester and finished in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. While in school, she meet Alphonso Glover. At the age of 21 years old, she married Alphonso Glover and from this union, two children were born, Kenneth and Kimberley.
Lillian Glover started working at Sears and continued working there for over twenty –one years. She also worked at the polls for several years. She was elected Judge of Elections Third Ward, 5th Division for many years. She was an avid volunteer for the Ronald McDonald house, African American Museum, and Skate House in the Park.
She became a member of the 59th Street Baptist Church under Pastor Powell, where she was the pastor's aide and worked on the mother's board and with the Vacation Bible summer school. She loved and cherished her sisters and brothers, and they always looked out for one other.
She loved her children, grandson and loved people in general. She was always looking out for others, making sure they had food and that they were okay.
After the death of her only son, Kenneth Perry Glover, she moved to the York House and continued to volunteer with the Veteran's Concern Group. She also worked with the Hospitality Club at the York House.
She loved music and birds. She loved to dance, cook and sew.
She will be greatly missed by her family, her neighbors, and her community. She had a great smile and kind words for the most unimportant to the most important.
She was a caring, loving and devoted mother and grandmother.
She leaves to mourn, one daughter, Kimberley Glover; one grandson, Kenneth Glover; one sister, Ernestine (Tina) Gibbs; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
